Atopy
Atopy is a common allergic dermatitis of dogs, in which the dog becomes sensitized to inhaled antigens in its environment.

They may be allergic to different outside pollens, household dust, molds, mildew, and carpeting. The skin and ears are the primary target organ for such allergies, although some will have watery eyes and a runny nose.

The age of onset varies, but is most often 1-2 years of age. These dogs are feet lickers, face rubbers and usually scratch their chests and abdomens. Approx. 75% of dogs will have recurrent ear infections, and secondary skin infections.

Treatment is directed toward minimizing the itchiness, blocking the allergies, and medicating the secondary skin changes
